The Aquasprouts encourage a new approach to grow and the creation of a self-sufficient ecosystem, using the farming method known as aquaponics. It is an indoor unit where fish and plants can comfortably coexist in the same ecosystem. As fish mature and produce waste, plants use that waste as their nutrients to grow, while also cleaning the tank’s water.

Aquaponics is a combination of aquaculture, which is growing fish and other aquatic animals, and hydroponics which is growing plants without soil. Aquaponics uses these two methods in a symbiotic ecosystem in which plants are fed the waste. In return, the plants clean the water that circulates back to the fish. Microbes play an important role in the nutrition of the plants. These beneficial bacteria gather in the spaces between the roots of the plant and convert the fish waste into substances the plants can use to grow!

Takes place of traditonal soil and acts as a support for the plants and roots. Also provides a surface area for nitrfying bacteria to colonize

Water is filled to a set level inside the grow-bed before being returned to the aquarium by two return drains

The pump is turned on by a timer every hour for 15 minutes, bringing water from the aquarium to the grow-bed. The pump is 9.5 Watts / 120 V

Fits standard 40 Litre aquariums

160 GPH Pump & Timer Included

BPA & Phthalate Free Food Grade Plastic

Aquaponics involves breaking down toxic ammonia and turning it into nutritious plant food called nitrates, Thankfully, however, nitrites attract another type of bacteria called nitrospiras who then convert the nitrites – excellent food for plants, and mostly harmless to fish. Once this has happened the aquaponic cycle is complete and once stabilised, will ensure ammonia levels are kept at a minimum while providing maximum nutrition for the plants. The benefits are incredible!

How does this fishy stuff work?

Aquaponics is one of the most efficient and cost-effective ways to grow food. Aquaponics uses 90%

less water than conventional farming. This is made possible by the nature of Aquaponics itself. Water usage is minimal as recirculated waste and tank water is continuously recycled and consumed as the plants need it. This is what we call a "symbiotic" relationship between fish and plants.

Uses 90% Less water

Conventional gardening and farming relies on seasons, sunlight, frequent watering, nutrient additives, chemical pesticides, and changing weather conditions to maintain growth. Under optimal growing

conditions, conventional farming still has to deal with many elements. These challenges can prevent plants from being their best self.

Grow Plants upto 100% faster

Aquaponics does not require pesticides or nasty chemicals to support plant survival. The combination of indoor shelter and growing conditions means that plants are almost completely protected from pests and insects. In saying that, pests always seem to find their way into gardens. Keep an eye out! Basically, it's an easier way to ensure that your food is organic and chemical-free.

Pesticide & Chemical-free

Rain, hail, or shine... It won't make a difference. As mentioned previously, you can control everything about your Aquaponic garden. Whether you're in a Melbourne apartment, Perth classroom, or Sydney office, you can grow all your favorite foods all year round. Special energy-efficient LED grow lamps allow plants to absorb PPF and act as the sun. This means you can switch seasons by simply changing the lighting schedule. It's pretty cool!
